"The road less traveled." A Sports Car Adventure

February 24th was a beautiful sunny day. With a high near 80, it was a perfect day to travel the backroads of North Carolina.

Greg and Lorrie Winfrey, the Fairfield Harbour Sports Car Club members, had planned a day trip to the Country Squire Restaurant, Inn, and Winery between the historic, quaint towns of Kenansville and Warsaw, North Carolina, in Duplin County.

At 9:30 that morning, 20 of us gathered in our Mazda Miata, Fiat, Abarth Corvette, Mercedes SLK, Maserati Quattroporte, Toyota MR 2 Spider, Caterham 7, and Porsches. With engines revving, tops down, and wheels in hand, we started the 72-mile journey to the Country Squire, famous for its complimentary wine tastings, delicious foods, and legendary hauntings.

The quiet country roads we traveled that morning had a natural beauty that stretched for miles. The tight curves and smooth pavement added to the enjoyment of this scenic drive.

When we arrived, we were warmly greeted and escorted to a rustic room with a back-woodsy-ness ambiance that immediately made us feel at home. Wine glasses were handed out, and Rod, the house sommelier, gave a short informative talk about the 20 wines we were about to sample. We tasted most of the reds, took a break, and feasted on their fantastic comfort foods. During dessert, Rod continued the wine tasting with their sweet wines, which was a nice ending.

When we finished our meals, we all went to the gift shop, where you could purchase any of their beautiful wines.

What an adventure! If you want to experience the unparalleled thrill of the road, destinations and activities, sports cars and roadsters, scenery, camaraderie, unforgettable new adventures, and rewarding memories, then you should join FHSCC.
