Yacht Club activities started off with a stubborn Piñata breaking at the annual Cinco de Mayo

party at Red Sail Park. The entertainment committee spearhead by Barb Barajas and Sharon

Nash put on a celebration filled with fun, music, piñata breaking, and wonderful food. And as

always Craig Myler, assisted by Janice, was making delicious margaritas to order.

The program for the month was on alligators. “Don’t feed the alligators!” was one of the major

messages of Chris Kent, who had the audience eating out of his hand for over an hour. Mr.

Kent, one of nine NC State biologists delivered the program at the May 8 Fairfield Harbour

Yacht Club monthly meeting.

It was three by land and three by sea for the annual Shakedown Cruise to Oriental on Saturday May 17. The Clays, Nettletons, and Madsens came by sea and the Mylers and Doucets came by land. The Berberichs came barely by land and they arrived safely, but with a compromised tire and were assisted back by the Mylers. . The group had a wonderful time eating at M&M's in Oriental.

Memorial Day weekend was a clothing clean out day for residents of Fairfield Harbour.

Members of the Yacht Club set up on May 23 and 24 at the Cart Barn and filled a closet full of

all kinds of clothes ranging from boots from a retired fisherman to someone realizing she was

never going to get back in to a size 10. The large RCS van was filled more than halfway on

Saturday afternoon

June promises to be a wonderful time on the water with five cruises and water events

scheduled. Come out and participate or just watch the Sunfish races on Northwest Creek every Sunday afternoon at 2 pm. It’s a wonderful time to relax and see colorful Sunfish against the background of the Harbour. The Great Trent River Raft Race is Saturday June 7, the Full Moon Raft Up is June 11, Thin Water Cruise to Latham-Whitehurst is June 14, and the Cape Lookout Cruise starts Friday June 20. Doug King will be presenting the monthly program on Hurricane Preparedness.

The Fairfield Harbour Yacht Club is open to any resident of Fairfield Harbour with a power or

sailing vessel.  Meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 7 pm.
