Tennis News October 2024

Fall is here and it’s perfect weather to dust off our racquets and get on the tennis court!

The 2024 US Open has just ended with several US women and men making it to the Finals. What a wonderful event!

The theme of this year’s competition was to celebrate the health and wellness benefits of tennis, regardless of age or skill level. They reported that multiple studies found tennis is the healthiest sport in the world, adding some 9.7 years to tennis players’ lives when compared to the lives of sedentary individuals, even more than soccer, jogging or swimming provide!

Other benefits include:

·       Lower the risk of heart disease by 50%

·       Improve balance, mental acuity, speed and social connection

Tennis is a sport for your lifetime. You can begin tennis at a very young age or begin in your retirement years. You can play if you have disabilities, even being confined to a wheelchair.

Fairfield Harbor has had an active tennis program since its inception. The FH Tennis Club has players in every age group, even into our 80’s.

It is easy to pick up a racquet and learn the basics of the game in a few minutes. Can’t find your racquet? No worry, the Tennis Club has loaner racquets and a backboard for solo practice at Red Sail Park so there’s no excuse to delay.
