Well, spring has arrived with warm breezes, lush green grass, and gorgeous flower displays all over the Harbour!  The Hospital Auxiliary volunteers have all been busy with sewing eyeglass cases and surgery pillows and other volunteers are crocheting cozy baby blankets and afghans for patients in the hospital.  At the end of April all the volunteers who help the hospital will be invited to Carolina East Health System’s Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon at the Flame’. This is the time of year when volunteers will be honored for the thousands of hours they have contributed cumulatively in numerous ways to help hospital staff and patients. There are many quotes about the essence of volunteerism and here is an oldie but goodie from one of my favorite authors, Erma Bombeck. 😊

“Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth, who reflect this nation’s compassion, unselfish caring, patience, and just plain loving one another.”

On April 5th, the hospital auxiliary had a Bake Sale in the Community Center for the Fairfield Harbour Spring Yard Sale.  We also had our own booth for the yard sale inside the Community Center, which is run by our very own Mary Lou Infinito and her wonderful team.  It was a warm morning, so many yard sale shoppers were out early looking for good deals to find, and several came inside to get fresh from the oven cinnamon rolls and a chance to mingle and chat with neighbors.  Several of the auxiliary volunteers jumped in to make all kinds of sweet breads, cookies, brownies, and muffins for the bake sale, too.  We had a great response to our 50/50 raffle, in which Kathy Clay won a whopping $84!  Congratulations, Kathy!  Janell Ringuette has always been a phenomenal chairwoman for this event, which helps to support the Auxiliary’s need to purchase yarn and fabric to make afghans, baby blankets, shawls, fidgets, stuffed animals, toys, and so on.  All items sold at our yard sale booth add even more to that much-needed fund.  Enjoy all the pictures below!

Please remember we are asking for donations for items that we put into our homemade Christmas stockings for patients who are in the hospital during the holidays. Please visit our Amazon Wishlist site. The auxiliary volunteers continue to make always-needed afghans, lap robes, baby blankets/beanies, eyeglass cases, fidgets, surgery, heart, and mastectomy pillows for patients at Carolina East, but we could use more help.  If you’re interested, the Hospital Auxiliary is offering a Crochet Corner after our monthly meeting.  It’s for beginners to experienced crocheters and will usually begin around 10:30 on the third Monday of the month in the Community Center.  We also offer a free Stitch and Chat from 1:30-3 at the Activity Center in Room 2 on the second Friday of each month.

The FH Hospital Auxiliary meets on the third Monday of most every month, at the Community Center from 9:30 to 10:30. The auxiliary does not hold meetings during the summer months of July and August. It’s a great way to meet new friends and become involved in our community by helping Carolina East Medical Center.  Please, join us and see what we’re all about.  Membership is free for both men and women, and for more information, you may contact our Chairperson, Holly Woodcock, or Pat Geres, our Membership Chair.
