Garden Club: 2023 Final Meeting

On November 13, 2023 the Garden Club held it’s last meeting of 2023.

At the meeting the Garden Club welcomed Rachel Tipton of Harbourside Garden in Bayboro. Rachel gave members a wonderful demonstration on how to arrange an outside planter, with natural greens, for a seasonal Christmas look. Everyone enjoyed her presentation and scrambled to be the first one to buy the planter she created.

Cheryl McAskill thanked everyone that supported the Raffle Basket Fund Raiser which raised $538.00 to support the club’s Scholarship Fund. The drawing for the Raffle Baskets was held.

The winners of the Gift Baskets were:

* Future Wine Basket: Yvonne Meissner

* Wine and Cheese Basket: Annette Wagner

* Spa Basket: Sue Jones

The Pine Cone Rolling event was held on November 14, 2023. Members got together and made Pinecone Bird Feeders to hand out at the Christmas Parade.

The Christmas Parade on December 3rd was a great success. This year’s Garden Club theme was “Candy Cane”. Members participated with candy cane striped hats and decorated golf carts.

The new Garden Club Webb site: FHGardenClub.com, is shaping up nicely.

Pamela Dion has volunteered to write the Beacon Articles for the Garden Club.

The Scarecrow Contest was another success. Team “C” won the competition with their Scarecrow “Pilgrim with Turkey”. Team members Kathy Trexler, Carrie Berry, Joy Hansen, Phyllis Godwin,

Marcia Wernecke and Ann Thomas, were recognized for their great job. The Scarecrow Contest and flower arrangement sale raised $243.00 to support the Club’s Scholarship program. Thank you everyone that built a scarecrow, donated a flower arrangement,

volunteered to help with the event or purchased raffle tickets.

The November Yard of the Month Winner was announced by Pamela Dion. Winners were Rusty and Peggy Hastings at 207 Chateau Drive. Congratulations!!

Lucille Durst raffled off two Christmas Cactuses for this month’s door prizes. The winners were Cheryl Stevenson and Pamela Dion.

The next meeting of the Fairfield Harbour Garden Club will be January 8, 2024 at 9:30 in the Community Center. The speaker, David Hite, Tryon Palace Herb Gardener and Horticultural

Technician, will share information about the herbs grown at Tryon Palace. All are welcome to attend.

The Garden Club wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
