Fairfield Harbour Garden Club Update

The school buses are back on the road, and fall is just around the corner!

The Fairfield Harbour Garden Club has planned another exciting year of programs and events for those wishing to learn more about gardening in this area.

The next general meeting, open to all, will be September 9th, starting at 9:30am in the FH Community Center.  The speaker will be Rachel Tipton, Owner and Horticulturist of Harbourside Gardens in Bayboro, NC. A Garden Club favorite, Rachel will share tips on fall gardening and plant ideas for the fall garden.

Now is the time to plan a fun autumn activity – Build a Scarecrow.

Annually, the Fairfield Harbour Garden Club sponsors a Scarecrow Contest.  All Fairfield Harbour residents, groups, and clubs are invited to enter a scarecrow into this contest.  Scarecrows are displayed at the Fairfield Harbour Craft Fair on October 26, 2024.  Visitors to the Craft Fair are invited to vote for the best scarecrow by purchasing raffle tickets and placing tickets in the box in front of the preferred scarecrow.   The creators of the winning scarecrow get bragging rights for a year!  After the winning scarecrow is decided by counting the tickets, the scarecrows are then raffled off.  (For more information visit the FH Garden Club website at https://fhgardenclub.com/scarecrow-contest-2024/)

The Scarecrow contest is a fund-raising activity to support the Garden Club’s Annual Scholarship Program.  Each year, a local student is awarded a Scholarship to an institution of higher learning.  The Garden Club has aided more than 20 local students continue their education in fields related to horticulture, agriculture, etc.
