Fairfield Harbour Garden Club Update

The Garden Club held its General Meeting on February 12, 2024. The membership chair welcomed one new member and one returning member to the Garden Club.

The Garden Club welcomed speaker Laura Lewis from the Craven/Pamlico Beekeepers Association. Laura gave an interesting presentation on the various varieties of bees, the workings of the hive, and their honey production. Everyone enjoyed the presentation which was followed by a question period.

Jan Reitzel gave an informative presentation explaining to the membership how the proceeds from the various fundraisers help to support the Scholarship Fund. The Garden Club presents one $1,000.00 scholarship to a qualified student in the Craven or Pamlico counties annually. The student must be enrolled in or attending a college seeking a degree in horticulture or related studies. Hazel Alcock has sent out all the information regarding the Scholarship Application to the Craven/Pamlico High School Counselors. Interested students may visit the Fairfield Harbour Garden Club Website at https://fhgardenclub.com/scholarship/ for more information.

Jane Haeussler and Lucille Durst presented information about the prize for the next Garden Club Raffle/Fundraiser. The raffle will include a Gardening Bench and Tool Bag with gardening tools. Tickets will be sold at the March and April General Meetings as well as the April 6th POA Spring Parking Lot Sale. The drawing will be held at the beginning of the April General Meeting on April 8, 2024. Anyone interested in purchasing raffle tickets may contact Lucille Durst at lusteve5909@suddenlink.net or Jane Haeussler at janehaeussler@hotmail.com. Tickets are $2.00 for one ticket or $5.00 for three tickets.

Lucille Durst raffled off three wind chimes for this month’s door prizes. The winners were: Barbara Paulsen, Cindy Scalion and Donna Calliari.

The next meeting of the Fairfield Harbour Garden Club will be March 11, 2024, at 9:30 in the Community Center. The speakers will be two Master Gardeners: Mary McLean and John Forsyth. They will be speaking about weeding and seasonal maintenance to your gardens. All are welcome to attend.
