It was a windy, rainy day when Fairfield Harbor residents woke up on Friday morning
September 30. Several events were canceled including a late opening of the Broad
Creek Recreation Center. Residents who lived in houses on Northwest and Broad Creek as well as other water access areas watched as the water rose due to high winds and torrential rains. By early afternoon, the water had started to recede and most yards were water free by Saturday morning. Both the Fairfield Harbor yard sale and bake sale were rescheduled for the next weekend. Downtown New Bern had the worst flooding since the destruction of Hurricane Florence in 2018. Even though Hurricane Ian did not even approach the magnitude of Hurricane Florence four years ago, it brought back memories of those difficult times that our community survived.
