Have a Pre-Shot Routine
One thing I hear all the time is “I’m hitting the ball great on the range, but can’t seem to take it to the course.” There’s actually a good reason for this. Usually when you’re out on the range you can get into a groove of just firing golf balls off without even hardly moving your feet. On the course there’s quit a bit of time in between shots and you typically aren’t using the same club every time. Having a pre-shot routine is something all pros do, even on the driving range.
Having a good pre-shot routine can make you more consistent on the course. A pre-shot routine should only lasts around 20 seconds but should cover all of the fundamentals, which I like to refer to as GAP B (Grip, Alignment, Posture, Ball Position.) Focusing on your breathing will also help you become more relaxed. Any tension in your setup will surely show up in your swing. Lastly, clear your head of all thoughts. The only thing you should be focused on is your target and making a nice relaxed swing towards it.
If you don’t have a pre-shot routine I encourage you to get one. Everyone’s pre-shot routine is different, so find something that works for you. Just remember to keep it to 20 seconds, because after all nobody really cares how you play as long as you play fast!
