The 2023 race for the HARBOUR CUP, completed its 11th week of play.
Here are some notable Week-11 highlights…
***WEATHER WIPEOUT***
Once again, Mother Nature took center stage in yet another week in this 2023 STATracker season.
On the eve of one of the biggest tournaments of the season, The MGA, a sudden high wind and rainstorm ran roughshod across the Fairfield Harbour peninsula, downing dozens and dozens of trees in the area and in particular, on the golf course. In fact, it was so extensive that the Bald Eagles round on Friday, also had to be cancelled. The prestigious MGA tournament was rescheduled for Wednesday, June 7th. A new signup sheet will be posted on Monday, 5/15.
So… all-in-all, only one round of golf was played in week-11.
Monday’s round was the only round of the week, but it proved to be a valuable one for some.
STAN KOONCE, who recaptured first place by just 2 points in the Combined standings last week, created some decent breathing room between himself and 2nd place holder, PAUL CORMIER.
Koonce had one of his top rounds on Monday packing together a total of 55 points for the day with a 2nd place team finish, a birdie, 2 holeouts and 2 sandies. He was the top scorer of the day. He has now opened up a 51 point lead over his main rival. However, the way this season is going, he won’t get too comfortable with it, here in the middle of May. Cormier did add to his league-leading birdie total with 2 birdies on Monday to bring his current season total to 29.
The team of CARMICHAEL, McCUTCHEON, SEYERLE and VILLANOVA achieved a first place team finish on Monday with a 4 stroke victory in the BALD EAGLES team event. For Carmichael, it was his 7th visit to the Winner’s Circle this season… all of them team events. That puts Carmichael just behind MARK NOLAN in the sidebar 2023 Winner’s Circle championship race. An info sheet on this race will be posted every Monday for the rest of the season, now that we are about 25% percent into the season. KEITH SWAN was the inaugural winner of this title last year.
Elsewhere during Monday’s round… 1st year player DAVE SEYERLE, continues to shine as he currently sits in 6th place in the Combined standings. Seyerle had a great round on Monday as he helped his team to its 1st place finish along with a birdie and a holeout. Seyerle has pretty much lived in the top 10 since the start of the season. Just an amazing start for the “quiet” guy. He already has 6 trips to the Winner’s Circle, all of them team events.
Mark Carmichael continues to stay in view holding down a solid 3rd place in the Combined. He is just 30 points behind 2nd place. He had a 20 point day on Monday with a 1st place team finish, a CTP and a holeout.
Hats off to all the crew at the Harbour Pointe Golf Club for getting the course back into playing condition. It is much appreciated by all the players.
