There's Always Something Happening in the Harbour

I asked folks to send me a blurb on the clubs and groups they are involved with within the Harbour. There are several groups, clubs, activities and classes. Here are the responses I received so far, in no particular order. There will be more in the coming months. There were also a couple of requests for groups folks would like to see, they will appear at the end.

Ladies Wednesday Bridge

We could use more bridge players on Wednesday pm at the Activities Center. Call Penny Sullivan at 703-587-1043 if you play bridge and are interested in joining the ladies on Wednesday.

Tuesday Bridge

The group is open to anyone.  Beginning players can get bridge lessons.  The group has about 20 players, who play for a trophy. The trophy honors the person who started the game. Players come from Taberna, New Bern, Emerald, and the Harbour.

Tuesdays from 12:30 to 4:00 PM

Attention any and all female golfers in Fairfield Harbour:

The HPLGA@FH is looking for new members.

If you are ready to play 18 holes, we would love to have you join our league.

If we had enough interest, we could form a 9 hole division as well.

Our League day is Thursday.  Tee off at 8:30 AM.  The Season runs from mid March through early November. Some days we play individual games, sometimes they are team games.  The goal is to have fun. Our current players have handicaps anywhere between 9 and 40 so don't think you have to be a good player to fit in. You just have to want to play - that's it!

Our Annual dues is $35.00 which covers prize money and other miscellaneous expenses throughout the season. To be eligible you will need to have a Harbour Pointe membership of some kind and obtain a GHIN number.  Both are available through the Pro Shop.

Please consider joining the HPLGA@FH and contact our Membership Chairperson:  Nancy Robinson or our incoming Membership Chairperson:  Dawn Ritter

Or myself:  Cheryl Furman, Current President.

Hope to hear from you soon!!!

Line Dancing

We have line dancing at the Community Center on Mondays from 2-5:00pm with Beginners starting at 2 and more advanced dancing from 3-5:00 pm.

Also there is Mah Jongg from 1-4:00pm on Thursdays at the Activity center.

Harbor Lights Players

Fairfield Harbour has its very own little theater club: the Harbour Lights Players (HLP). They

traditionally have two productions a year—a variety show called The Follies and a spring/winter comedy.

A read-through of this season's play will take place Tuesday, December 10 at 7 p.m., with auditions on December 12, between 7 and 8 p.m. Both will be held in the Community Center. Anne Griffith will be directing the play, so contact her if you have any questions.

Not interested in performing? There is always room on any of the prep or running crews and

hospitality-type jobs for refreshments and preparing for our several yearly social gatherings.

Interested in learning more or joining us? Plan to attend our new members wine and cheese event on the first Thursday in February, the 6th, at 7 p.m. If you would like to get involved in the work of putting on the upcoming play, contact Anne Griffith or any HLP Board member.

Hospital Auxiliary

We are part of the support and care for the patients at the Hospital. Some of our ladies and gentlemen volunteer directly at the hospital. While others of us work behind the scenes to supply items needed to make their stay less stressful and more comfortable. We hand make many items such as Crochet and Knitted lap robes - small and large afghans, hats, shawls, baby hats and blankets. We make fidget blankets, catheter covers, surgery pillows, seat belt covers, and toys. Then at Christmas we make and fill 230 Christmas Stockings with handmade items (crochet/knit washcloths, eyeglass cases, picture frames, Coasters, mug rugs,  Christmas ornaments). We put in hotel/travel toiletries, puzzle books, note pads, mechanical Pencils, pens, tissues, playing cards, fidgets/stress balls, toothbrush and toothpaste and Lip Balm.

We hold 3 major fundraisers a year: We are known for our  Bake Goods which we sell at the 2 FH Parking Lot Sales and then we sell Soups at the FH Craft Sale. These sales are how we purchase the yarn, plastic canvas and fabrics we use in the items we make. Donations help with the filling of the stockings.

We are always looking for new members and we will be having a “come check us out” Friendship Gathering in February.

Movin’ to the Oldies Chair Exercise

Twice a week we gather to move everything from the top of our heads to the tips of our toes. If you are not supposed to move something, or if it hurts don’t move it.If you can’t move something it’s OK, we do what we can.  We do light weights, stretching, chair dancing. We move to music from the 50’s to maybe 2010 plus a little Zumba. We sometimes sweat and we have fun. Everyone is welcome. Please join us. Tu & Th at 11am CC

Balance Class

Tuesdays at noon we do exercises to help us maintain our balance. This is a standing class open to everyone.

Wants and Wishes

"I see the quilting and knitting/crochet groups. Was thinking more painting, plein air, and sketching."

"I would love a moms' playdate group for toddlers. It's  always hit or miss at the parks here. Often, my child is the only one playing. She turns 3 yrs. old in a month and craves socialization.  It would be nice to establish a weekly or biweekly playdate for those who desire the same.  The more, the merrier! There may already be an established group that I'm unaware of. If anyone is interested, my email address is: authornace@gmail.com."
