Hello from your FHLibrary. The library is open Monday through Friday from 8 am-8 pm for everyone to borrow books, DVDs, movies, and puzzles. We have a return cart near the door for you to return borrowed items. There is a large labeled bin for new donations next to the table in the library room.
For Your Consideration
The library exists and operates solely on donations. We have an incredible selection of fiction, non-fiction, and biography/autobiography books to loan. We also have DVDs, talking books and puzzles. This selection could not exist without you, so thank you for the donated resources. Here are a few reminders when it comes to donations:
We gladly accept your gently used and loved reads to share with our community.
Make sure books are clean and undamaged.
We do not accept items such as cookbooks or coffee table books.
We are looking to build a DVD and Large Print collection. If you have any movies or large print books, we welcome them.
Puzzles with all pieces are accepted. Just tape the sides of the box so the pieces don't fall out.
If you are cleaning out items or moving, look at your loved and gently used books. If you have any things you would like to donate, drop them off at the library. However, if you are looking to downsize and need to throw out well-used books, please do not bring these items to the library.
Beverages, Biscuits, and Books
FH is lucky to have actual librarians on our Library Committee. Grab your beverage of choice and a snack, and read a recommendation from our library chair Mary Hittner.
Classic Books at the POA Library
Did you know your POA Library has a collection of "classic" books? These books are shelved on top of the center set of bookcases. Enter the library, look straight ahead, and there they are! We put a dark blue dot on the spine and shelve them alphabetically by the author's name.
What is a "classic book"? Good Question! The dictionary defines "a work of recognized and lasting value ."Practically speaking, at the POA Library, it depends on the opinion of the volunteer librarian responsible for cataloging the donations.
When it's my decision, as a weekly volunteer, classics are books that were assigned in college literature classes, books that were written years ago and are still in print, and books by well-respected authors (think Hemingway, Austen, Kipling, etc.). Other volunteers will have different criteria.
If it's been a while since you've read a classic, check out our collection. It's an exercise for the brain, and who can't use some of that?
Our Librarians
We have a great volunteer staff that curates our library, and our librarians do weekly rotations. If you see any of them, say hello and share your favorite author or book!
